2010 Tignanello

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

The lesser of the Antinori Super-Tuscans, but still a wine which I thoroughly enjoy drinking when I get the chance.

Dark red, young looking but just slightly transparent at the centre. Surprisingly mature nose, slightly stewed and slightly sour, perhaps just showing a touch of early barnyard smells. Wonderfully dense on the palate, lots of layers with plenty of fruit, late arriving tannins and high levels of acidity. Delivers a very big palate and presence. Rather acidic on the aftertaste - painfully so at first - but this fades to give a long finish of sour fruit and dry, woody tannins. Overall this was step up in quality from the local Lugano red wine but was better yesterday and probably suffered from being stored in a restaurant that varied daily from 20-30C. Despite this, it was a very fine glass of wine purchased in a restaurant at pretty close to UK retail price. 88/100. Drunk 04-Aug-14. Open 24 hours.

How interesting. I bought a Villa Antinori today, on André's recommendation. I know nothing about Tuscans. I look forward to opening it.

Good recommendation.

Your Tignanello sounds a bit rough round the edges though Alex.

It was - but really not ideal storage conditions. And way younger than I would normally choose to drink.
