1996 Chateau Batailley

Post by DRT »

I am enjoying my last glass from this bottle, which I think was the only one I have owned.

I didn't take a note at the outset but this has been simply delicious from start to finish over a period of around four hours. It lacks the traditional barnyard nose that I am now familiar with and has a slight green leaf character to it. The tannins have integrated fully with the ripe, plummy fruit. Full bodied and then long in the finish. Drinking beautifully now.

I need more of this.

Not only of this 96,

Try also Labergorce Zede, d Aurilhac, Chasse Spleen, Haut Bages Liberal or a bit more upmarket Sociando Mallet, GPL, Calon Segur, Gruaud Larose, Pontet Canet and Cantenac Brown. Expensive but great are Cos d' Estournel, Lynch Bages and Leoville las Cases. Too expensive but fantastic is Margaux 96!
