1855 Taylor Colheita (Scion)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep brown with a yellow rim; 80% opaque. Very strong VA nose, almost madeira-like, with a sourness under the VA. Lighter on the nose than the '63. Smooth - so smooth - entry, slow and languid on the tongue. Powerful acidity and concentrated orange essence fills the mouth and begs to be drunk. Hugely acidic on the aftertaste with a long lasting finish of toffee, coffee and tangerine. This is an absolutely wonderful sensory experience. Chosen for the tasting by Beatriz Machado, Wine Director at the Yeatman. 99/100. Drunk 26-Sep-14. Pop 'n' pour.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
