1977 Smith Woodhouse
Drunk as an extra bottle at the Fonseca tasting on 19th January 2015. Mature red in appearance, 70% opaque, rose colour on the rim. Powerful nose but with a pungent streak of rosemary or antiseptic - lively but odd and not particularly attractive. Balanced entry, perhaps a touch hollow, but then a huge set of flavours that deliver a big and powerful presence with plenty of pronounced tannins. Still big and burly, this is a port that has some decades to go. 88/100. Drunk 19-Jan-15. Decanted ½ hour.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
