Re: 1908 Cockburn
1908 Cockburn: Pale tawny, with a slight hint of red. Smelling of coffee and marmalade — surely the perfect breakfast port! Lovely soft entry, heat in late palate, and medium length. Later the heat had faded, I writing “so soft and lovely†. Delightful mature port. Needs no more time, but holding up well.
Re: 1908 Cockburn
I noted that I agreed with Jdaw's observation that it had coffee on the nose. A lovely thick texture with stewed fruits.

Re: 1908 Cockburn
My tasting note on the night read as follows:
Pale centre, showing a lot of brown and a hint of green on the rim. Nose of menthol with stewed fruit mixed in with it. A bite of rosemary comes through in the palate; quite acidic and slightly harsh, but with a nice seville orange peel running across the tongue. The aftertaste has a harsh burst, which fades to leave a long tingle and a candied strawberry finish. 87/100.

Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.
2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Re: 1908 Cockburn
Miguel Côrte-Real sent AHB some of his own notes on the various vintages, some obviously drafted in advance, some from the day itself.

Generic Information
A fine wine probably initially darker and fuller than either 1900 or 1904.
Tasting Notes
A great classic. Not a very big wine but superbly balanced with great vinosity, flavour and staying power. (W.Fletcher 1978)
Other
A very good vintage, some considering it as good as 1912.
It will show good colour and body all through its life. (J.Smithes 1968)
