Lisbon's "Wine Tasting Room"
At the recommendation of a respected member here, I visited the Wine Tasting room in Lisbon a few days ago - I was doing my "tourist guide" thing for a visiting friend so it seemed appropriate. http://www.winesofportugal.com/en/travel-wine/wine-travel/wines-of-portugal-tasing-rooms/ (yes, ...

Re: 2009 Niepoort LBV
I think that the Niepoort LBVs are probably better after some years in bottle. In their youth they may not be better than their filtered peers. You asked me if I'd tried it yet - so, guinea-pig style, I took that as an indication that it was ready to be drunk! Not to worry - the friends like...

Re: Seeking "The Authentic Vintage Port" experience...?
To really experience White Port you need to get one that is well-aged, ideally a 1952 Dalva Golden White. But since those are exceedingly rare, any of the Kopke 10-, 20-, 30-, or 40-year olds will suffice, as would the other Dalva Golden Whites (1963, 1971). Ah ah - thanks - they are now on my list.

Re: "Made to be drunk young"
I think it's all just in the balance of grapes used in the blend. Fiercely tannic varieties (maybe Touriga Nacional or Tinta Cão) that would give great longevity but which make the wine inaccessible in the short term are not required, whereas more floral varieties (perhaps including Tinta Barroca?)...
