Re: 1983 Fonseca
My bottle - first of two from C&B broking list in 2019. Good level (into neck) and excellent cork. Initial QA sample good (the night before the tasting)...
...but by the next evening, nose was off with stewed/cooked character.
Palate better, but some unpleasant bitterness on aftertaste.
Not good - suspect a storage issue earlier in life. Not looking forward to the second bottle.

Watery rim.
Nose spirity and orangey.
A bit hot on the palate.
This was not very pleasant.

F83. My note consisted of the one word “No”.
Plus a colour note of red-red-brown, 30% opaque.

E: Red tending to brown at the rim.
N: An unwanted nose of hot stewed fruit.
P: Hot and acrid on the palate.
Not at all enjoyable.

30% opacity, and that's it.

Re: 1983 Fonseca
Decanted for 90 minutes the night before the tasting before being returned to the bottle and vacu-vined.
A mature brushed copper colour, 50% opaque. Showing little on the nose other than some bruised apple and a little toffee. Sweet, toffeed fruit on the palate; good acidity and a little ground peppercorn giving a touch of heat. The wine is light and very delicate in the mouth. Lots of heat on the aftertaste showing the spirit very clearly. The heat slowly fades to reveal a finish of elastic bands and struck matches. Either a poor wine or a poor bottle. 81/100.
