I managed to pick up 2 of them when they were (re-)released, and as I recall it was a pretty limited release. 1 of the 2 has since been consumed. Brand new, spiffy modern labels, so unless you know what you're looking at when you see one, it is entirely possible that you might move right past it without realizing it's 40+ years old. I think I know where they are in one of my wine fridges, so if I get a chance I'll dig one out to photograph and post in this thread.mosesbotbol wrote: ↑11:44 Tue 19 Jul 2022That's the only one I can think of off hand. Here is a pic of the Old and ‘New’ Ck77.
Interestingly there is no ‘not for commercial use’ on the Ck74 label earlier in the thread, but there is on the bottom of the older bottle shown here. Also, I seem to remember that Tom brought an undeclared Ck66 to the ‘66 Horizontal 6 years ago or so. A bottle with very good providence from memory.

No wax on the reissued '77? Makes sense there was no selo on the original since they weren't for sale.

I am quite amused that the old lables say “not for commercial use” rather than “not for sale or resale”: I like the idea that one might not merely drink a bottle of Port but, instead, “use” it.

Splendid. I have acquired 3 x 1985 Fonseca @ £52.50 (not quite daily drinker money but certainly cheaper than I have seen it in the last 6-7 years), 4 x Gosset Rose Halves @ £20.50, and a bottle of 2018 Gravelly Meadow (which is a plausible candidate for best US cab of that year) for a global low price of £147.50.
Re: Latest buy
That is a most excellent price. Over here they're now usually comfortably over $100/bottle, even at auction.

Despite limiting purchases to 4 per customer, Harvey Nick’s have emailed me to apologise that they can only send me 3 bottles of the Croft 1994 with my order and looking at the limited selection left, it appears that
has done a fairly effective clear-out in the last 48 hours...

Re: Latest buy
Not had a stella GM79 yet but hopefully they will be good.
However, the Mackenzie 55 is normally another very yummy Port! It would make for a good tasting alongside the FG76… possibly with a Dow 80 added to provide the Baga team, to go against another 55/76/80 trio.

No-where close to Gerwin’s wonderful birthday present to himself, I bought (and consumed) a bottle of the wonderful Kopke 2003 Colheita last week.
My better half also bought me a bottle of Warre 1985 to give to me on my birthday later in the year.
Plus I stumbled on bottles of Quinta da Pedra Alta 10YO Tawny and 2018 Vintage and just had to buy them.

I have just purchased the following bottle at auction ( online but not collected yet). I know little about old tawny port, it was listed as a Gilbey 1900 and cost the princely sum of ten pounds plus fees. Can anyone enlighten me as to this port. Thanks

Re: Latest buy
Bottle looks like mid to late 1950’s to early 60’s, perhaps.
Label appears to say …many years in cask. But no reference to actual age or year. However a good chunk of label is missing.
Without actual documentation, would be hard to verify it was actually 1900 Colheita. Labeling wasn’t always very clear as to contents back then (or sometimes now either).
Older tawnys tend to hold up better with long term bottle aging. But if indeed in bottle ~60-70 yrs it’s going to be a toss-up if it’s great, good or not so good. Regardless, the price you paid made it worth getting to at least try.
Please do let us know how it is when you open it.

Re: Latest buy
I don't see anything on that label to indicate that it might be a 1900 Colheita. What I do see is "Finest Old Tawny Port" which sounds to me very much like a Tawny Reserve. Though as Andy said, labeling wasn't always clear (or consistent) back in those days.
Even if a 1900 Colheita, the likelihood that it was bottled in the 50s or 60s with a t-stopper means it isn't likely to be great. Fine, no doubt, but I wouldn't expect much. 10 pounds seems reasonable.

While I agree with everything Andy and Glenn have said, don’t let them put you off.
I have some Tawny Port which was bottled in the 1950s and 1960s (although a short driven cork was used). It is still a phenomenal glass of wine. I reckon you have something which could be absolutely stunning.
(Glenn - I draw a parallel with the Mourão 40YO bottled in the early 2000s. These had a t-stopper but are still fabulous and probably will continue to be fabulous for another 50 years.)

6 more 2021 Graham's The Stone Terraces in 750ml, plus a tregnum, bringing my total to 12 and 1.
These are, of course, all in London, so I still need to acquire a couple here in the US (at an exorbitant price) so that I have them available to do my little verticals every time they release a new vintage.
