The "Too lazy to collect my bottle from JDAW" 1970 tasting?

Organise events to meet up and drink Port.

The "Too lazy to collect my bottle from JDAW" 1970 tasting?

Post by benread »

Is anyone else minded to suggest we drink the spare bottle they have made available for last weeks 1970 tasting and which now resides in JDAW's cellar with a 'best before' date of 3rd October 2026?

I am suggesting the 'rules' should broadly be:
  • priority will be given to those liberating a bottle donated by them to the 1970 tasting last week and which now sits in JDAW's cellar
  • I am happy to organise the tasting if there is interest - to be held at the Boot & Flogger some time in Q1 2026
  • The capacity will probably be capped at 14
  • I propose running a waiting list of those unable to attend the 1970 tasting but who would like to attend - anyone in this category goes straight to the waiting list, but see point below
  • My only other suggested criteria for the waiting list would be 'bring a bottle that will not feel out of place in the expected company' - but you can be the judge of what that might mean
  • I might allow 1 month from a date being set for priority attendees to declare / confirm an interest and then start promoting waiting list names to confirmed attendance
  • EDIT: the date will be chosen to suit the specific availability of JDAW and I and there is a presumption JDAW may request/require some assistance if too many bottles for 1 person to transport.
Feel free to suggest any additional criteria - logical or silly - if you think I have overlooked something!

And if there is not sufficient interest, I will keep 4th October 2026 free and suggest meeting JDAW for lunch!

Am I invited? If yes, and the date works, then yes please.

See my edit to post 1. There is a presumption a date will only be chosen that specifically suits you and me!

I’m planning to collect in December, but could leave one of the bottles with JDAW if it qualified me for a seat at the table…
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

I won't be in the UK in Q1 2026 but am happy to donate the bottle of Dow to the event. Enjoy!
