Hutcheson 1980; Rozès LBV 1994
I’ve bought the Hutcheson 1980 (if it’s excellent I’ll consider dragging one across the pond for the 1980 horizontal), and a Rozès LBV 1994 for the LBV tasting. Here jdaw1 wrote:Seen on the shelves of Manor House Cellar (61 West 23rd Street, ☏ +1 212 206 7900):

It was a lucky find on Marktplaats (for the non Dutchies: a public classifieds site) and I thought ┚¬ 50 was not a bad deal. Had to go to Schiedam to pick it up though.RonnieRoots wrote:Rubby, good one on the Vesuvio! I tried to find it desperately around Utrecht before we left, but no luck.
The only shop I have found that sells one, wants ┚¬ 68 for it. Other shops sell Vesuvio, but never the '94.

Excellent! Is that in Oman, or are you visiting somewhere? If you are in Oman, that sounds like the foreseeable special occasions sorted out, now you just need a decent House Port.RonnieRoots wrote:LadyR and I enjoyed our first chance of indulging in the fine are of "port-buying" after months and months of living on a strict budget. Bought in Oman? Not a chance. We bought this over the internet from a UK retailer, who was so kind to deliver it to our storage in the Netherlands.
Still looking for a house port... but we'll have some people bring a couple of bottles of LBV with them when they come back from their family visit in Holland. That should give us some temporary relief.

2 TFg. Vargellas 2005 $47/ea
2 Croft Roeda 2005 $43/ea
2 Fonseca Guim. 2005 $44/ea
1 SWC LBV 1984 $30
1 Croft 2003 (was supposed to be 3*) $70
1 Grahams 2003** $80
1 Qd Noval 2003** $75
* - apparently there's a spanish dockworkers strike hindering some distributor's access to portugese wines. Sadly they didn't have enough Croft to fulfill my order, so I ** picked up two alternatives. That makes 4 Croft03, 3 Noval03, and 1 Grahams03. All I'm missing are a few Fonseca's.
Bottles purchased via Liquor Outlet Wine Cellars
Also got two Argiano Brunellos from 03. They declassified it because of the scandal. I've 3 of the declassified ones (just released), so I'm making two "historical novelty" 2-packs and drinking the last bottle.

2x Graham's 1980

wussed out on Graham's 1983. Will buy it next time I'm back near that store, and perhaps their last Graham's 80 too.

6 bottles of Vesuvio 1998 - nice wood box
Any time not spend drinking port, is a waste of time.
Re: Latest buy
Here is a link to a TN of my only experience of this wine. I do remember it being delicious for immediate drinking in 2006, which may suggest it isn't one for the long term. Others with more experience of it may disagree.ac-fast wrote:6 bottles of Vesuvio 1998 - nice wood box

I've just come back from Sainsbury's with 6 half bottles of Malvedos 1996, a bottle of Warre 1999 LBV and a bottle of Fonseca Guimaraens 1988. The latter two bottles to be drunk in the next couple of weeks and the half bottles to be tucked away somewhere quiet for the next few months or years.

From my experience on Friday lunch, the latter (FG88) needs plenty of decanting time to be at its best! Was this in their -25% sale?AHB wrote:I've just come back from Sainsbury's with 6 half bottles of Malvedos 1996, a bottle of Warre 1999 LBV and a bottle of Fonseca Guimaraens 1988. I’ve had the Crasto which is good stuff, though my experience of it suggested that it needs time in the decanter (or a few more years in the cellar) to really blossom.ac-fast wrote:6 bottels of Rosez 1994 Vintage - and 2 bottels of Quinta do Crasto LBV 2001 - never tasted it before, have you ?

I have a Fonseca 1970 at home. Bring a Fonseca 2003 and the Vargellas 1991 and, chez moi, we’ll share the three bottles some time between Christmas and New Year.

I have 4 bottles of 1999 Quinta de Roriz on the way from winestilsoldout.com as well as 5 bottles of 1964 Dow's Single Year Reserve Port (which I have confirmed is a Colheita) on the way from Benchmark Wine.
$30/bottle and free shipping on the Roriz, so I couldn't pass it up. $60/bottle on the Dow's, which seems pretty cheap to me for a 1964.

6 x 1997 Niepoort... about half appear to have been stained up around the neck at some point, but none of the corks are pushed. So I can't tell if this is the infamous Niepoort '97 leakage problem or if they've simply been leaked on from above. The other half appear to be completely clean.
