Cruithne is sometimes (always wrongly) described as Earth's second moon. It is also described as chasing the Earth, also wrongly.

It is a large asteroid of about 5Km in diameter that has a year that is very close to that of the Earth but has a very eccentric orbit around the Sun, in comparison with Earth's very circular orbit. Cruithne crosses the orbit of Venus and touches that of Mars and is also on an inclined plane when compared with the planets, in the same way that Pluto's orbit is inclined and eccentric.

It is sometimes described as having a horseshoe orbit, which is verging in insanity. It's orbit more likely resembles a kidney bean, but only from the viewpoint of the Earth. Its orbit is very definitely elliptical.

It is cute.
