You had written and printed the first draft of the introductory spiel for a chapter of The Book. Standing in the kitchen, hesitating about what to eat, you decided that the first draft was so awful that you ate it, mostly to hide your embarrassment, and, rather than waste time eating a more ordinary lunch, went to re-draft it.

So, a small piece of paper?

Or, more accurately, Derek is now into salad and vegetables; we eat proper food.

Kind of; there's a difference between pickle, relish, chutney and pickled xxx. Pickled xxx tends to be something that has been soaked in vinegar or flavoured vinegar - egg, onion, gherkin etc. Pickle tends to be small bits of vegetable in a sauce which contains vinegar (look up Branston pickle or Piccalilli on Wiki or the Cross & Blackwell website). Relish is the same as you think of when you say relish - mushed up vegetables in a spicy or acidic sauce. Chutney tends to be sweeter but can be the same texture as pickle or relish.

I apologise in advance for not being able to give the rapid fire response to poor quality guesses that most participating will be used to.

My maternal grandfather is less famous that the man from Del Monte. Nevertheless, he was a member of government and held a number of other posts and completed a number of firsts which led him to become a minor dignatory in some parts of the world.

Can you name the ministerial post he held, or the country in which he held it, or one of the other official posts he held, or one of the firsts he achieved which led to his reputation becoming established?

Given the (hopefully) rather challenging nature of the question, I will allow one answers to each of as may of the above questions as you wish, to be posted with each guess. Answers must be clean as this is a family friendly forum.
