But were we to look at the number of posts within fixed periods of time, we would see that the total yielded in each successive period of time was greater than the immediately preceding period. The number of posts multiplies like topsy. The thread is out of control. It has diverted us all from more interesting and important things.

Did someone ask a question and then disappear, leaving those of us left here to generate a huge volume of guesses with no answers being returned for a prolonged period?

Period of nothingness. Then some happened important to this thread. Port involved, as you have been told.

JDAW was drinking two ports that were identical apart from the vintage. I think the answer was Warre LBV 198something and 198something-else.

In the question that revived this thread JDAW re-stated the rules. Last Friday JDAW issued a minor reprimand to Glenn for introducing the concept of "bonus points" for supplementary questions that are redundant in the context of the rules of the thread. Is it that the participants were reminded of the rules in order to maintain the original intent of the thread?

I’ll take that as near enough.

This thread had been silent for almost 1½ years, when I restarted it with a question about the Port being served at my wife's book club meeting. Last Friday, she and an overlapping set of friends met, again chez nous, this time for a clothes-swap party. The common element was the wife’s parties (at which her friends drink my port).

It is the question of the man who has drunk his share of a ½ bottle of Champagne, one bottle of Rhone, and is now working on the Port. What could go wrong?
