Nice twist, something that you might have done before but aren't sure. I was thinking (a slow event)

Quite often I pull of the whole capsule.LGTrotter wrote:Removed the entire capsule rather than just cut away the top?
Not related to the capsule.

I think we have been deserted. However I have to stay up and start a new thread on an old chestnut. Night.
Re: One quiz at a time
One could do this same thing to un-fortified wine, but, as with the Port, if I have done it before, it has been very rare.

You had white port and poured some water into it. Like you might do with white wine in summer.

It could be argued that the problem was that something was mixed with the Port, but that might mislead.

First of you two to post the next question is the Question Master.
Mrs W wanted some port for cooking. The remainder of a half of Croft LBV 2004 went into a decanter. It looked just so small and pathetic that another was added as a top-up. Very rarely do I mix bottles. On this occasion, it seems that no harm was done.

Re: One quiz at a time
New question:
A mathematical port fanatic keeps his port in a (temperature and humidity controlled) safe, the key to which is an electronic 6-digit PIN. As he cannot reliably remember this PIN, he has worked out that with each letter representing a different number, he can add three port houses with the total being a fourth, this total being a six digit number. Unfortunately, he has forgotten one of the port houses. He remembers this:Determine the missing port name and the sum and hence identify the PIN to the safe to allow access to the port!

If he knows the total, does it matter? He must remember what each letter stands for and therefore if the result is TAYLOR he knows the combination.

No. He cannot remember what numbers the letters stand for, however he used to be able to remember the names of the four port houses, and so could then easily solve the puzzle to get the PIN.djewesbury wrote:If he knows the total, does it matter? Re: One quiz at a time
Well my brain isn't functioning at its best, so the only progress I can make is that none of {C,O,T} represents 0.
Also, the set of letters (assuming base 10) is {A,C,E,F,L,M,O,R,T,Y}.
There. I got you started!
Wait... I will make a guess. CROFT?

Good progress by Glenn; I wil confirm that base 10 is a correct assumption.
Re: One quiz at a time
Cryptographic nonsense. Attack codes at their weakest point. In this example, deducing the code is more work, and less reliable work, than guessing each possible answer. There aren’t many:
Krohn?
- Adams
- Avery
- Cálem
- Cedro
- Croft
- Dalva
- Dixon
- Feist
- Judeu
- Kopke
- Krohn
- Noval
- Poças
- Roriz
- Rozès
- Sibio
- Souza
- Warre
