1970 Gonzalez Byass

Post by jdaw1 »

Within the regulation week of DRT’s 51st birthday, we (DRT, JDAW, IDJ, AHB, THRA, SCD, CPR, ARM, and TC) brought “a bottle of VP, blind or sighted” to the Boot and Flogger.

Copper orange tone, 50% opaque. Sweet fruit on the nose with lots of dusty cherries. Sweet fruit entry, mid-weight and well balanced even if a little restrained. The mid-palate being perfectly balanced, An aftertaste of slightly bitter fruit with a good length. Served blind this was guessed to be Sandeman 1970. 86/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

GB70. Lovely red, 30% opaque. Nose showing red fruit, including cherry, and structure. Nose perfectly mature. Palate likewise, with some heat.
