Martinez 19??

Post by Deleted_User_1 »

Has anyone had the pleasure..or displeasure...of tasting any Martinez. The reason for asking is that I have stumbled over a small consignment of bottles with no labels but the foil cap clearly says Martinez. They are old, given the condition of the bottles, but the levels are good and they are lying down. Any comments would be gratefully received before I part with the cash.

If you have seen the bottles, it may be possible to compare them to any photos of bottles that members have uploaded here. In particular, if a tasting note does not contain a photo, see if it has indications of being part of a tasting (listed at the top of the note) and then click Review of Tasting. We often have pictures of the group, and you might be able to spot a Martinez bottle in there.

Welcome aboard Ray!

Martinez is one of the most commonly seen brands on bottles that pre-date WWII, but is less often seen since.

Although the capsule may have incomplete information, the cork should reveal the vintage date, if it is a vintage port.

There is a risk that if the capsule gives the shipper, but not the vintage, then the content may something other than vintage port. However, I once found some bottles of Delaforce 1950 vintage port that were similarly enigmatic.

How many bottles are there?

Please post us a picture of the bottles when you can. You may have just bought yourself 3 bottles of the never-before-seen Martinez 1931 - or 3 bottles of Martinez Ordinary Ruby (bottled in 1947). But whichever it is, we'd love to know!

Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
