I note that the title of the tasting note for the Nacional is "1966 Nacional". Should we follow that lead for future tasting notes of the Nacional wines (ie. omit any reference to Noval)?

Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

I vote no. I prefer the use of the full description Quinta do Noval Nacional, preferably with the funny little curly thing at the bottom of the c in Nacional 88)

“Naçional†?! Please help me believe by uploading a picture of a bottle with a label in which the c of Nacional has a cedilla.

I'm not too surprised as a large proportion, posted by Axel, LadyR and I, come from Vesuvio vertical tastings at the Quinta. Many others come from Alex 'Vesuvio' Bridgeman - He has a username with a H in the middle instead of a V just to throw us off

“new features†: For the newly-arrived or unobservant…

Post by jdaw1 »

DRT wrote:new features
For the newly-arrived or unobservant:
  • House names now link to the website for that brand, where one exists and is known to me.
  • Each VP brand has been assigned a unique abbreviation, and to encourage their consistent use, they are shown appended by the year (e.g., “BI63† = Borges & Irmão 1963).
  • Standardisation of representation of “LBV†, “colheita†, and the like.
But there’s a price. The auto-correcting software will doubtless introduce new errors: start at this post to find them and shame me (before I find them without the shaming).

You may suggest it. The software can do “Quinta do Noval Nacional vintage port†, which isn’t quite what you ask.

Or find a better link, which may be a deep-link.

Their site uses Flashiness that prevents me from isolating a url to a Nacional-only page. Your compromise is better than nothing.

A suggestion: Quinta do Noval Nacional should come immediately after Qunita do Noval in the TN Index. Mainly just because it should.

Does that mean that this is being given a lower priority than the upgrade to 3.0.2?

The TN database is developing into a seriously useful resource - I would like to be reassured that the data is being properly backed up to more than one location...

:tpf: backups be further copied to a CD

Post by jdaw1 »

I propose that :tpf: backups be further copied to a CD, which is then mailed to one of JDAW DRT THRA. Recipient can keep and hopefully ignore the slowly-growing pile of disks.

If dated, we can always bin the previous one!

Alternatively, how easy is it to email the essential data?

Some email systems reject large emails

Some email systems reject large emails. And a CD is harder to lose — in the way that computers can randomly delete important files. A CD would be much safer: I’d be happy to file them, keeping the most recent several (keeping more than one in case of a ‘problem’).

Backups are taken on a regular basis by me and the hosting company backs up the servers.

I can backup to disc and to an external hard-drive. I can also backup using the application and SQL. Derek and Julian both have the ability to backup using the application...

Would it take considerable effort to create a second version of the TN Index thread that was ordered by Vintage then Shipper? I think it would be good to be able to isolate all TNs for a particular vintage rather than scrolling through the list of shippers.

For the avoidance of doubt, I think both Vintage>>Shipper and Shipper>>Vintage are equally useful so I am advocating having two TN Index threads, or one thread containing both versions.

Can be done. What happens to “NV†s, and the likes of “20Y†. Or is the date thing only for dated things?

If it makes it easier then the others could be excluded. If the thingymajig that does the ordering would simply place them all together in some sort of logical order at the top or bottom of the date list then that may also be useful. I wouldn't waste time messing about with these.

This? I have removed the links from the house names, because their great number would otherwise overwhelm.

Was only a little bother, but having been done, won’t be much to maintain.

The new Vintage-sorted thread is excellent. Thank you, JDAW.

Two suggestions:
  1. both indeces should have a link on the Board Index page
  2. each of the threads should have a link to the other immediately below the title at the top of each thread.
