1986 Churchill Fojo

Post by nac »

Part of Churchill vertical tasting @ B&F, Tuesday 1st March 2022.

One of six different bottles supplied for the tasting by the Churchill Grahams. Many thanks to Johnny & Jamie.

Bottle looked in perfect condition, but only arrived the morning before the tasting so wasn't able to settle before being decanted (approx 24 hours before tasting). Pretty good cork with "FOJO 1986" clearly stamped.

A touch sour initially. Sweetness to offset it but not entirely pleasant. Going back, the sourness has disappeared, now the sweetness is honey and toffee with strawberries. V good.

Very lovely rich colour.

Attractive note of kirsch on the nose.

Kirsch continued on the palate. A hint of coffee-led tannins later. Really good wine.

25% opacity, mature red. Red fruit on the nose. Strawberry, chewy, rich.
