1992 Fonseca

Post by winesecretary »

Pigeon's blood red. Licorice on the nose. Lush rich palate of black fruits. This is lovely now.

My WOTN, and the group's, deservedly.

Consumed 6/4/22.

Deep red colour with a wide rim. A delightful fragrant nose, full of fruit - so bright and delightful. Satin texture, beautiful fruit just hitting its secondary phase. A big palate, big fruit and perfect tannins - such a delightful complex and still youthful palate. Chewy aftertaste; big black cherry, liquorice root and many wonderful lingering sensations. Fabulous, with many years ahead of it. Also my wine of the night. 94/100. Tasted 06-Apr-22.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Deep garnet with fabulous nose of black cherry, liquorice, plum, menthol, and further development notes of cacao, coffee and wet soil. This has a pronounced aroma intensity and a real depth of flavour. Very well balanced acidity against the sweetness that makes you want to sip again and again. The tannins are silky smooth and the finish is long with all the flavours following through in a layered manner. Moreish and delicious and in a very good place now. My wine of the night! 95/100, tasted 06-Apr-22.

Fonseca's my favorite producer, but the one bottle I tried of this a few years back was somewhat average. I wonder if it was closed? Based on these reviews I think I'm going to pick up a few more bottles and try it again.

@ Mike J.W.- I would very strongly advocate so doing.

70% opacity, dark red. Nice rich red fruit nose. Full mouthfeel, smooth, dry finish, dark cherries. Super stuff.
