1992 Niepoort

Post by winesecretary »

Garnet. Promising slightly stalky nose. Palate of ripe red fruits. This is pretty good port, actually. Seems to have higher acidity that the others here tonight, but characterful and completely clean.

Consumed 6/4/22.

Double decanted at 21.00 and drunk the following day at 19.15.

A warm brick-red colour, 60% opaque and one of the lighter wines at this tasting. A little subdued on the nose, showing some sour cherry. A delightful light and airy texture but quite slow to reveal the fruit on the palate; some hawthorn flower and rose hip grows very nicely. The aftertaste is delicious, warmer and rounder than the fruit on the palate, delivering a good long finish. Perhaps this is just coming out of a closed phase. 89/100. Tasted 06-Apr-22.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

45% opacity, mature red. Nose has candy and cherries. Full mouthfeel, smooth, faint heat in the finish. Nice chewy fruit.
